New York, NY (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

The New York Civil Liberties Union recently released an analysis (5/9/2012) on how often the New York Police Department stops and frisks minorities. The report, an analysis of last year’s 685,724 stops, shows just how disproportionately blacks and Hispanics are stopped. It is of great interest to New York civil rights violation lawyers at The Perecman Firm and other defenders of civil rights.

David Perecman, a New York civil rights violation lawyer, and founder of The Perecman Firm, believes the police department is unfairly targeting minorities.

“The report shows a significant gap between the number of African-Americans and Latinos who were stopped and frisked, and whites. Racial profiling is a violation of civil rights,” said Perecman, a civil rights violation lawyer in New York for over 30 years. “Divisive and discriminatory policing practices have no place in a city as diverse as New York.”

Discrimination, racial profiling and bias-motivated harassment are examples of civil rights violations.

A number of New York City officials agree that the NYPD policy “must be retooled,” reported The Wall Street Journal (5/9/2012).

According to the NYCLU report, of the stops in 2011, 52.9 percent were of blacks and 33.7 percent were of Latinos. In other words, 87 percent of those stopped in 2011 were black or Latino. Whites accounted for 9.3 percent of the stops.

More young black men were stopped by police last year than live in the city, said the report. New York civil rights violation lawyers at The Perecman Firm also saw that an astonishing 90 percent of the young black and Latino men stopped by police were innocent, meaning they were neither arrested nor ticketed.

Individuals who believe they have been victims of a New York civil rights violation including discrimination or racial profiling can contact New York civil rights violation lawyers at The Perecman Firm at http://www.perecman.com.

Dearborn, MI (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) will present a 3D imaging technologies lineup of briefings, workshops, presentations and displays at RAPID 2012 Conference & Exposition May 23-24 in Atlanta in response to the growing number of manufacturing engineers looking for solutions that accelerate product design and production.

3D imaging equipment and software are used for a full range of manufacturing applications including; inspection, quality control, verification, metrology and measurement. When combined with additive manufacturing, 3D imaging technologies can streamline the product design and inspection process, dramatically reducing the time it takes to bring new products to market.

“3D imaging is often the first step of the 3D printing process, especially when it comes to physical objects that need to be virtualized,” says Michael Raphael of Direct Dimensions. “3D imaging provides the solutions for capturing reality.”

3D imaging tools have evolved and provide automatic functions for analysis of complex geometric inspection of manufactured parts. The latest solutions automate the analysis of CAD-encoded geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and are expected to drive the growth of production inspection and part manufacturability with 3D imaging technology.

Lynchburg, Va. (PRWEB) May 12, 2012

Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., may have retold the “Miracle Story” of how Liberty University has become the world’s largest Christian university during its 39th Commencement on Saturday morning, but the packed Williams Stadium crowd only needed to look around them to see the miracle for themselves.

They saw Liberty’s largest graduating class honored — 14,012. The number of graduates has nearly quadrupled in the five years since Falwell, Jr., became chancellor after the sudden death of his father, Liberty’s founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell, Sr. Liberty now enrolls over 90,000 students and will surpass 100,000 in the next 12 months.

They saw thousands more parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, children and close friends arrive to campus several hours early just so they could support their loved ones and celebrate their achievement on this important day.

They saw more than 2,000 military personnel honored for earning their degrees while serving and protecting our country.

And they saw a prominent Virginia businessman honored on the same stage with the founder of Chick-Fil-A and a presumptive Republican presidential nominee (see honorary doctorates below).

No doubt the largest crowd ever for a Liberty Commencement, Saturday’s event was historic in many other ways.

Falwell took the opportunity to formally announce Liberty’s intention to move its football program to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level, after recently completing various feasibility studies. The move will be finalized when Liberty is invited to join an FBS conference, he said.

Falwell also announced this year that Liberty will top $ 1 billion in net assets, making it the youngest university in American history to reach this tier.

“My father announced publicly, shortly before his death in 2007, that he was praying for a five-year, $ 1 billion miracle for Liberty,” he said. “This was at a time when Liberty’s net assets were less than one-tenth that amount. I have to admit many of us thought it would take a generation or more to reach that goal. Over the last five years, though, God has taught us all that there is no limit to what He can do.”

And there’s no limit to what God can do in the lives of people committed to Him, a theme that rang true from the invocation given by Dr. Elmer Towns, co-founder and Dean of the School of Religion and Dean of Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary, to an address by world-renowned evangelist Luis Palau, to Falwell’s charge to the graduates and the speech delivered by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Romney was introduced by Liberty alumnus Mark DeMoss (’84), a friend of Romney’s who founded the DeMoss Group, a national public relations firm, and whose father was one of Falwell, Sr.’s closest friends and confidants.

Romney paid tribute to Falwell, Sr., many times in his 20-minute speech, recalling having met him in his Boston home seven months before he died. Romney called it a “great life honor” to speak at Liberty’s Commencement.

“Your generosity of spirit humbles me, the welcoming spirit of Liberty is a tribute to the gracious Christian example of your founder,” he said. “In his 73 years of life, Dr. Falwell left a big mark. … The calling Jerry answered was not an easy one. Today we remember him as a courageous and big-hearted minister of the Gospel, who never feared an argument and never hated an adversary. Jerry deserves the tribute he would have treasured most: as a cheerful, confident Champion for Christ.”

Romney said the most confident step Falwell, Sr. ever took “was to open the doors of this school 41 years ago.”

“He believed that Liberty might become one of the most respected Christian universities anywhere on the earth and so it is today,” Romney said. “He believed even when the first graduating class consisted of only 13 students that year after year young Christians would be drawn to such a university in ever great numbers — here you are. Today, thanks to what you have gained here, you leave Liberty with conviction and confidence as your armor. You know what you believe, you know who you are and you know whom you will you serve. Not all colleges instill that kind of confidence.”

Romney spoke briefly about his own convictions, receiving a standing ovation when he stated marriage was a relationship between one man and one woman.

He also spoke about the protection of religious freedom, “the first freedom in our Constitution” and putting that faith into service.

“Whether the cause is justice for the persecuted, compassion for the needy and the sick, or mercy for the child waiting to be born, there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action,” he said.

Service and moral convictions is where “people of different faiths, like yours and mine” can meet in “common purpose,” he said.

Romney graduated from Brigham Young University in 1971, and continued on to earn dual degrees from Harvard Law and Harvard Business School. A businessman and career consultant, he co-founded and later served as CEO for the investment firm, Bain Capital.

During a significant time in his career, Romney was asked to take over the managing role of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, which was on the verge of collapse. Under his leadership, the budget was salvaged, the public’s confidence was restored, and Salt Lake City staged one of the most successful games ever held on U.S. soil.

Romney married his childhood friend, Ann, in 1969. They have five sons and 18 grandchildren.

Commencement 2012 notables:

During his welcome speech, as he traditionally does, Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr., shared a few words highlighting some notable graduates in this year’s class.

This year’s oldest graduate, at 77, is Dolores Darrell and Liberty’s youngest is Gabrielle Turnquest, age 17.

Falwell gave special recognition to those graduates who completed their degree through Liberty University Online, many of whom could not have obtained a college degree without it.

“As part of Liberty’s Christian mission we have sought to make Christian education affordable and accessible for as many individuals as possible,” Falwell said. “Liberty University Online has achieved that objective like nothing else could.”

Katherine McInnis began her college journey in 1977 but had to drop out because of financial challenges. She enrolled in Liberty Online as a mother and grandmother and today, on her 53rd birthday, graduated Summa Cum Laude.

In 1998, graduate Katheryn Armstrong broke her back while taking classes at Liberty. She enrolled in Liberty online to finish her degree, and thanks to a miraculous new surgical technique, walked across the stage at graduation, after years of being confined to a wheelchair.

Falwell was reminded of Liberty’s humble beginnings from Mark Rhoades, Jr., who attended Liberty in 1974 when classes were held at the old Thomas Road Baptist Church site and the land on which Williams Stadium now rests was home to a dairy barn.

Rhoades also had to leave Liberty after only one year and later returned to obtain his B.S. in 2010, and this year received his M.A in Human Services.

Falwell, citing Liberty’s family-friendly atmosphere, said that three sisters — Hannah Ellenburg, Catherine Comfort and Emily Ellenburg — graduated together today and their fourth sister, Sarah Ellenburg, is a freshman. Resident student Katie Raybould told Falwell at last week’s senior picnic that three members of her immediate family would graduate together today.

Mike Morrison and his sister, Danielle, graduated today. Mike, a member of the Flames hockey team, will play pro hockey in New Zealand this summer.

Falwell somberly honored Ron King who was awarded his doctorate in ministry today, posthumously. King passed away on Feb. 7 this year and his wife Sharon King, of Huntsville, Ala., was present at today’s ceremony.

He expressed sorrow for her loss, but wanted her to know that Liberty “is not just your husband’s alma mater, but your extended family.”

Falwell also told the miracle story of Patrick Andrews, who so many have come to fondly know as “the man in the orange shirt.” At the ceremony, Andrews was wearing an orange cap.

Andrews began his studies at Liberty in 1994. During that year he was in a car accident that changed his life forever, putting him in a coma for six weeks and giving him severe head trauma. After the accident, Andrews was only capable of taking a limited number of credit hours per semester, but he never quit, following Falwell, Sr.’s repeated admonition.

Today, after nearly two decades of perseverance and determination, Andrews received his bachelor’s degree in communications at 40 years of age.

Falwell said that the Class of 2012 is one of a few special classes to enroll at Liberty after his father’s sudden death five years ago.

“The first few classes of students in my tenure as president will always have a special place in our hearts.”

Honorary doctorates:

Liberty University’s Board of Trustees conferred three honorary doctorate degrees during the 39th Commencement ceremony.

Worth Harris Carter, Jr. was born in Richmond, Va., in 1937. He began his career as a cashier. The job provided income while he earned a B.A. in political science and history at the University of Richmond. He then attended two years of law school at the University of Virginia, but for financial reasons was unable to finish. Later, he became a bank examiner. Between 1973 And 1998, Carter founded 10 separate community banks. Those 10 banks merged in 2006 to form Carter Bank and Trust where Worth Carter now serves as the chairman and president.

His bank provided Liberty with short-term loans beginning in 1988 and with its first long-term mortgage financing in 1997 after donors like Arthur L. Williams, Jr., gave generously to reduce its debt.

Carter was presented the Doctor of Business degree.

“Worth Carter, Jr. has fought the good fight and has been quietly used by God to make a difference here at Liberty and in the lives of many individuals. You would be wise to follow his example of perseverance, integrity and a strong worth ethic,” said Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr.

S. Truett Cathy is the founder of the Chick-Fil-A restaurant chain, with over 1,600 locations in 38 states and in the District of Columbia. He was presented the Doctor of Humanities for his “commitment to faith and excellence in business, and for modeling the vision of Liberty University to the world,” Falwell said.

Romney, 2012 Republican party nominee for president, was presented with a Doctor of Humanities degree.

“Governor Mitt Romney is on the front lines, representing and defending the uniquely American ideals that are important to this institution, and to the future of our nation,” Falwell said.

Liberty University, located in Lynchburg, Va., is the world’s largest Christian university. Nearly 100,000 students attend classes on its 6,800-acre residential campus and study in its thriving online education program.

Jackson, MS (Vocus) April 18, 2008

Teach & Inspire accepted 100 professionals into its scholarship program to pursue teaching in high-need Mississippi schools. The Teach & Inspire participants will complete a preparation and certification program to teach math, science or English for the 2008-2009 school year.

There is a critical need for dedicated and high quality math, science and English teachers in Mississippi’s high-need schools. At the start of the 2007-2008 school year, Mississippi had 375 teaching positions unfilled. Teach & Inspire, a scholarship program of the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) is working to provide quality teachers for the following districts: Canton, Coffeeville, Drew, Greenville, Hancock County, Hattiesburg, Holly Springs, Houston, Indianola, Moss Point, Noxubee, Philadelphia, Quitman, South Delta, West Bolivar and West Tallahatchie.

“The vision of Teach & Inspire is to recruit more people, particularly those of color, to pursue teaching in areas with the greatest need,” said ABCTE president Dave Saba. “We are confident that this first cohort of Teach & Inspire candidates will truly make a difference for Mississippi’s students.”

Teach & Inspire candidates were awarded a scholarship to earn their teacher certification through ABCTE’s Passport to Teaching program. In addition, candidates will receive a stipend for completing pre-service work prior to entering the classroom. Teach & Inspire teachers commit to teaching for three years in a high-need school. Teach & Inspire is funded through money from the U.S. Department of Education Transition to Teaching grant. For more information, visit http://www.teachandinspire.org

About the American Board

The 2nd Chinese Investment in the US Real Estate Forum is to be drawing U.S. real estate developers, property owners, financial advisors, attorneys, investment bankers, and industry executives, and venture capitalists, among others, to be educated on the latest happenings in China-US real estate investment. The June 21, 2012 event, which will take place in Los Angeles, will be centered on real estate investments pouring in from China. Rapid growth in the Chinese economy has created a strong demand for the US real estate market. The number of wealthy Chinese is growing at 9.7% annually, according to the GroupM Knowledge – Hurun Wealth Report 2011. Additionally, Merrill Lynch and Capgemini’s Asia-Pacific Wealth Report 2008 shows that in 2007, high net-worth individuals in China placed 21% of their assets in real estate versus a worldwide average of 14%. The preference the wealthy Chinese show in real estate, along with the current drop in housing prices and a steady RMB, have made real estate investment in the U.S. more appealing than ever before.

In the U.S., the Chinese are now the second-largest foreign buyers of homes, behind Canadians, accounting for $ 7.4 billion of sales in the 12 months ended March 2011, up 24% from the previous 12 months, according to the National Association of Realtors. Buyers from China and Hong Kong also spent $ 1.71 billion on commercial property in the U.S. in 2011, more than quadruple their investment in 2008, says Real Capital Analytics. Chinese investors are interested in commercial projects, residential properties, hotels, golf courses, clubs, land, industrial warehouses, office buildings, and shopping centers. The Forum aims to help U.S. companies and individuals tap into more of this Chinese capital.

This year’s day-long event will feature some of the most experienced and knowledgeable individuals in the real estate industry. Scheduled speakers include Mr. Brian Su, CEO of Artisan Business Group, Inc. Mr. Guy Maisnik, Attorney and Partner Jeffer Mangels Bulter & Mitchell LLP (JMBM), Mr. Bernard P. Wolfsdorf, Managing Partner & Attorney, Wolfsdorf Immigration Law Group, Mr. David Appel, CPA & Senior Partner, Marcum LLP and Mr. Kevin Wright, President, Wright Johnson LLC Marcum LLP., and others

Purchase, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

As mothers everywhere prepare to be celebrated on May 13 for Mother’s Day, thousands of women who hope to become mothers will be coping with issues of infertility, a disease that affects about 12% of the reproductive-age population in the U.S.1 Attain Fertility®, which includes the nation’s largest network of fertility clinics as well as online fertility education and support, understands how difficult Mother’s Day can be for those women struggling with infertility, and offers 6 key points for them to consider on their journeys to achieving successful pregnancies.

1. Tick-Tock

Contrary to the Rolling Stones song, time is not on a woman’s side when it comes to having a baby. That’s why it’s important for women who have been unsuccessful in becoming pregnant to see a fertility specialist early on. A woman’s biological clock is very real. Women are born with all of the eggs they will ever have, and by age 30 they will have lost 90% of those eggs, 2 and fertility significantly declines ten years or more before menopause which typically occurs between ages 45-55.

With many women choosing to start a family later in life or holding off during these uncertain economic times, this is not necessarily good news as their chances for becoming pregnant rapidly begin to decrease along with their supply of fertile eggs. “Most women don’t understand that even though they feel young and fit, what’s going on internally is very different,” comments Dr. Susan Willman, a reproductive endocrinologist at Reproductive Science Center of the San Francisco Bay Area, a part of the Attain Fertility Network.

2. Know the Facts

It’s important for women to work with a fertility specialist to understand their unique fertility issues and options that can range from surgery and drug treatment to assisted reproductive technology, like intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). “With all the choices available today, we work carefully with our patients to find one that will allow them to conceive and have a baby,” explains Dr. Willman.

One of the tools Attain Fertility has developed to help women evaluate their options is the Attain Fertility Predictor. The Predictor, a free iPhone App, allows women to review their chances of success for both IUI and IVF treatment, which will help them determine which treatment protocol is better suited for them.

3. Tip the Scales

Being overweight or underweight are both linked with infertility. Women should know their body mass index (BMI) and what their ideal weight should be. “Another factor many women tend to overlook is their weight, and not just being overweight. Being over- or underweight are both linked to fertility issues, making it harder for women to get pregnant,” explains Dr. Willman. A healthy diet and consistent exercise routine are key to not only becoming pregnant, but for maintaining a healthy pregnancy.

4. Kick the Habit

Smoking is a serious infertility risk factor causing damage to fallopian tubes and the cervix, making conception more difficult. Smoking is also known to cause a decrease in a woman’s egg supply, age a woman’s ovaries at a faster rate than normal, and may bring about early menopause.

5. Stress Less

Dealing with fertility issues can be an emotional roller coaster. Dr. Willman and other fertility experts agree that the best thing women trying to conceive can do for themselves during this exciting and unpredictable time, is to find ways to alleviate stress. Meditation, specially-designed yoga classes, and acupuncture, are ways to reduce stress and support a healthy physical and mental body. Personal psychological counseling, support groups, and learning to just walk away and enjoy something fun and different can also help women maintain a strong, positive outlook throughout their journey to motherhood.

6. Dollars and Sense

It’s no secret that the cost of fertility treatment is high. However, it’s often difficult to understand just how much it will cost. Unfortunately, many people facing fertility treatments as their only option to becoming pregnant give up without learning about all of the financing options that are available to make treatments affordable. Attain® IVF, for example, is a financial product available to patients at clinics within the Attain Fertility Network that helps manage the cost of IVF treatment.

“I encourage people to schedule an initial consultation and learn what their treatment options are,” says Sharon Brooks, Attain IVF’s Customer Care Supervisor. “Taking that first step really gives people peace of mind. After that the next step is to learn about all of the different financing options that are available. From insurance benefits to finding a financing plan that suits their needs, there are many, many options available to people who want to start a family.”

San Jose, California (PRWEB) February 07, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn – Ready availability without compromising on quality and freshness make frozen food hot favorites of many. The market consists of frozen pizzas, sandwiches, meat pies, side dishes and ethnic food, among others. Frozen prepared food are the next best alternatives to fresh, cooked food, especially on busy days and help in serving meals at short notice as and when occasion demands. Over the past few years, increase in the number of working women and changing trends in ethnicity have led to greater indulgence in frozen food. Additionally, increasing number of nuclear families, rise in disposable incomes, young singles with little or no cooking skills, enhanced awareness of healthful diets and increased interest in ethnic and international foods, are other factors which are providing impetus to the frozen foods industry.

Frozen food products are the newest additions to the next generation of technology driven food products that are tuned to fit into the consumers’ ever dwindling cooking time schedules. Consumer lifestyle has been and continues to be the crux behind product innovation/development efforts. The “fresher than fresh” promotional campaign of the frozen food industry is enabling consumers to realize the authenticity and benefits of frozen foods. The frozen food market is abuzz with innovative initiatives across diverse categories of products. In addition to good taste, imagination and creativity serve as powerful distinguishing factors among developers of food products in the industry.

As the next generation of convenient customer ready foods begins to hit the market, highly processed frozen microwavable food will rapidly make inroads into the frozen food sections of supermarkets and grocery stores. The trend of shoving in a frozen microwavable ready meal into the microwave oven and heating it is gaining momentum not only among individual consumers but also among institutions and public food outlets. Pushed against the wall by time constraints, modern day consumers are increasingly demanding ready meals that are microwavable. Gaining increasing popularity is the chilled and frozen ready meals category, driven by pioneering food companies’ innovative product introductions aimed at igniting universal consumer enthusiasm.

Frozen pizzas dominate the prepared frozen foods industry. Modern day pizzas are no longer confined to traditional flat and circular shape, but come in an endless variety of creative shapes/structures, such as, pizza-on-a-stick, pizza pockets and pizza strudel, to name a few. In 2010, the segment witnessed exponential growth, primarily as recession hit economy forced consumers to look out for convenient and economically priced food items instead of purchasing take-outs or splurging in dining out. Presently, frozen pizzas are registering enhanced sales as well as profits by delivering the same quality and convenience as that offered by restaurants, however at an economical price range. Even though the promotional activities and deals offered by conventional pizza chains are affecting the sales of frozen pizzas to a certain extent, the segment is continuously witnessing an increasing rate of growth along with increase in sales and profit driven by the introduction of new products, enhanced ingredients as well as apt promotional strategies.
