Bruce T. Halle, founder and chairman of Discount Tire, the world’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer, and his wife, Diane M. Halle, president of the Bruce T. Halle Family Foundation, received honorary degrees from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, UK, in recognition of their philanthropic work and generous support of the Scottish university.
In the first dedication ceremony ever to take place at Queen Margaret University’s new campus in Edinburgh, students and the community took part in a special event to hear from world-class entrepreneurs Bruce Halle and founder of the Kwik-Fit tire and exhaust business, Sir Tom Farmer.
Professor Anthony Cohen, principal at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh said: “Bruce Halle established Discount Tire Company nearly 50 years ago in America. The company grew from a humble one-store operation to become the world’s largest independent tire and wheel retailer.”
To honor the Halle’s business success and philanthropic lifestyle, Queen Margaret University named its 250-seat lecture theatre after the couple.
“The Halle’s personal philosophy of involving the local community with their business mirrors our University’s wish to contribute to our community. The Halles have an extraordinary record of selfless philanthropy, with particular interests in healthcare, education and the visual arts. The Halle Foundation provides grants to organizations and causes which will enhance the quality of individual lives. The Halle’s philanthropic activities match Queen Margaret University’s mission,” said Cohen.
